Blogging may sound like an old fashioned indulgence. Blogging, as in publishing or consuming blog posts, used to be a big thing in the naughties, before slowly reduced to a niche space for writers and selective readership. But it continues to exist, and thrive – dare I say. WordPress as one of the leading platforms enjoy a steady traffic of 409 million readers in (HubSpot, 2020).
Of course, RSS reader applications or aggregators like News Explorer or Reeder contribute to blogging continuous appeal and outreach to new audience.
Underneath this seemingly fading glory of universally loved writing/publishing platform, in the wake of more trendy Medium, Substack or even email Newsletter, there are still gems and gold in the blogging space i.e. WordPress, Blogspot/Google.
My favourite is of course Greg Mankiw’s, which I have read since Graduate school days (early naughties). His consistency to continue making economics accessible to the masses is his blog’s greatest strenght. A truly Economics 101 on real life tapestries. Do subscribe or visit gregmankiw.blogspot.com.
On the other hand, there are also academics that publish with depth of analysis and insight, among which is the valuation guru Aswath Damodaran. His Musings on Markets (aswathdamodaran.blogspot.com) is a must read for all finance geeks or investment junkies out there. His piece on NVIDIA published in June 2023 is a delight to read, in light of NVIDIA’s meteoric rise to promince in the stock market – https://aswathdamodaran.blogspot.com/2023/06/ais-winners-losers-and-wannabes-nvidia.html.
Of couse, there are many other names worth mentioning. Including the very prolific blogger and author Seth Godin (www.seths.blog), a business thinker and marketing connoisseur. However, the only way to truly find your kind of hidden gems is by exploring the space.
