Year end resolution

Few days toward the end of the year, the global economy is looking pretty good. Most emerging and developed economies are experiencing much sunnier days, with growth on the positive side and capital markets enjoying strong performance.

Some people are astonished with such situation, recovery is coming too soon, they reckon. Newsweek in its year end edition asks ‘Is that all?’

For Indonesia and its neighbors, who were to an extend affected by the crisis, the news is welcomed and cheered. No question asked for its quicker rebound. This only means that they can start exporting to the world again; Indonesia with its commodities and Malaysia with its manufactured goods.

What remains to be seen is how soon good news translate into real action by the buyers, ie. the US and EU. If their economies are moving again, when will they start importing at the rate before the crisis again? Politics aside, this action is something everybody is hoping, or praying for, for the coming year.

With much hope and anxiety, we welcome the year of 2010.**
